Targeted recombination and gene editing for increased genetic gains in Chile pepper.

For this theme, research will focus in identifying targeted recombination points in populations of chile pepper using genomic prediction models to estimate effects at these sites. Gene editing-mediated targeted recombination will also be examined. Factors that increase the efficiency of targeted recombination will be identified. Finally, a chile pepper breeding program that integrate targeted recombination for increased genetic gains will be established. Genetic gains attained from these recombination events will be evaluated and compared with that of the other breeding strategies.
